The Diamond League is an elite athletic competition which is invitation only and held in different countries for one day. This is Yupun’s 4th time competing, where he competed earlier 2 weeks ago in Oslo (Brislett Games), and last year, he ran in the Florence leg (Golden Gala) and also the Finals in Weltklasse Zurich.

Yupun has been on song in his recent races (100m, 150m and 200m), breaking record after record and in his most recent race at the Ostrave Golden Spike, he clocked 10.08 seconds. In the Anhalt finals, he came 1st place beating Ferdinand Omanyala the current fastest runner for this year and finished with a timing of 10.06 seconds, his personal best and new South Asian record.

This race today will be a highly looked forward one world wide for the main reason being that the Tokyo Olympic Gold medalist Marvell Jacobs will be running in this race, for the first time in this year’s Diamond League. He will be heavily tested by the current European fastest Reece Prescod from Great Britain. The Italian is yet to record a timing under 10 seconds this year and Prescod came in 2nd place to Andre De Grasse in Oslo, the same Race where Yupun came 5th.

Last time, it was a rain hit race and Yupun was not able to record his best timing according to his new standards (10.16 seconds in Oslo DL) and has been consistently running under 10.10 seconds on a number of occasions. Currently he is one of the fastest Asians this year (3rd fastest this season). His personal best stands at 10.06 seconds where he recorded in Anhalt Germany, beating Ferdinand Omanyala the current world fastest.

It should be noted that he is already qualified for the World Athletics Championship (Oregon 2022) for the 100m, along with Nilani Rathnayake (3000m Steeple Chase) and Gayanthika Abeyratne (800m).
