Sri Lanka’s para athletics camp celebrated a proud moment today as long jumper Buddhika Fernando Jananjana delivered his finest performance yet on the global stage. Competing in the fiercely contested Men’s T47 Long Jump Final, Fernando soared to a personal best distance of 6.70 metres, securing seventh place against a world-class field.
The T47 classification features athletes with upper limb differences, and the final showcased some of the best para long jumpers from across the globe. Despite the pressure of the championship setting, Fernando displayed composure and consistency throughout his attempts. His record-breaking 6.70 m jump not only marked a career milestone but also underlined Sri Lanka’s growing presence in international para athletics.
Team officials hailed the achievement as a testament to Fernando’s dedication and the tireless efforts of his coaching staff. With this performance, the 26-year-old has set a new benchmark for himself and for Sri Lankan para athletes aspiring to compete at the highest level.
Sri Lanka’s para sports community hopes that Fernando’s inspiring leap will encourage more young athletes to pursue the sport, proving once again that determination and hard work can carry a competitor to new heights—both on the track and in the nation’s sporting history.
