LPL 2026-Match 05, KAF v CLK – Victory looks good in Yellow!

Asked to bat first, Kandy Royals made a good start with openers Kusal Perera and Lahiru Udara.

The pair added 28 runs for the first wicket. Lahiru Udara scored his first LPL half-century, making 53 runs with eight fours and one six.

For Colombo Kaps, Binura Fernando and Hasan Mahmud bowled well, taking four and three wickets respectively. Despite losing wickets, skipper Angelo Mathews and Moeen Ali added a valuable 65 run partnership for the fifth wicket. Moeen Ali scored 41 runs, while Angelo Mathews made 45. Kandy Royals finished on 179 in their 20 overs.

In reply, Colombo Kaps lost an early wicket when Nuwan Thushara struck in the second over. Skipper Kusal Mendis was forced to retire hurt after the second over, and the top order batters lost their wickets at regular intervals. Wanindu Hasaranga took two important wickets to keep Kandy Royals on top.

But Janith Liyanage and James Neesham changed the game with an unbeaten 115 run partnership. In the 14.3rd over, Garuka Sanketh dismissed Neesham, but it was a no ball, giving him another chance. That moment changed the match. Liyanage and Neesham stayed unbeaten and guided Colombo Kaps to a five wicket victory.
