All hopes faded for Colombo Kaps at their home ground as they suffered a five wicket defeat to Galle Gallants in their first match of the Lanka Premier League.
After being asked to bat first, Colombo Kaps captain Kusal Mendis led from the front with a brilliant 79 off the bat, smashing seven sixes and two fours. Ben McDermott added a valuable 57 as Colombo Kaps posted a competitive total of 189/8 in their 20 overs. Akif Javed was the standout bowler for Galle Gallants, claiming four wickets for 40 runs.
In reply, Sam Harper gave Galle Gallants a flying start with a well made 65. Colombo Kaps fought back by taking important middle order wickets and putting the visitors under pressure. However, Sahan Arachchige remained calm and scored an unbeaten 38 to guide Galle Gallants to a comfortable five wicket victory.
