Sri Lanka proceed with tour of Pakistan

Sri Lanka’s will proceed with tour of Pakistan with a promise of tight security afforded to heads of state from Pakistan, the sport’s governing body in the island said.

“Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce that the forthcoming Sri Lanka National Team’s tour of Pakistan will go ahead as planned, following assurances given by the Government of Pakistan that it will provide maximum security arrangements for the team during their entire duration of stay in Pakistan,” the sports body said.

Sri Lanka’s head of national intelligence retired Major General J R Kulatunga has also said no foreign intelligence agency had warned the ministry of defence about any threat to Sri Lanka’s team.

Pakistan has assured Sri Lanka’s ministry of sports that the team will be provided the same level of security usually given the visiting heads of state.

Pakistan’s army will co-ordinate security.

The tour which was due to start on September 27, was put on hold after Sri Lanka’s prime minister’s office warned that it had received information about a possible attack on players.
