India Post 40/0 at Stumps, Need 152 to Win in Ranchi

India reached 40 for no loss at stumps on the third day of the fourth Test as they chase 192 against England. At close of play, skipper Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal were batting on 24 and 16 respectively. India will take an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series if they knock off the required 152 runs on Monday.

Senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin (5/51) and left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav (4/22) shared nine wickets between them to run through the England line-up in their second innings on a pitch offering the slow bowlers enough help. Before the Ashwin-Kuldeep duo got down to bamboozle England with their turn, bounce and guile, young wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel showed tremendous game awareness on his way to a fine 90-run knock.

Earlier, a fighting knock from Dhruv Jurel came to an unfortunate end as the wicketkeeper-batter fell 10 runs short of his maiden Test ton. India were bowled out for 307 at lunch, cutting down England’s first-innings lead to 46 runs. Jurel was cleaned up by Tom Hartley after a commendable 90-run knock off 149 balls, including six fours and four sixes to wrap up India’s first innings in 103.2 overs. For England, Shoaib Bashir completed his maiden five-wicket haul.
