Isipathana take major honours in ‘Battle of the Brothers’

sipathana College took major honours int the 61 st Battle of the Brothers annual encounter against Thurstan which ended in a draw at SSC grounds yesterday.

In fact batsmen dominated yesterday while Isipathana scored 250 for 9 wickets and Thurstan made a good reply with 253 for 8 wickets declared to make big challenge against arch rivals Isipatana. However Isipathana made strong reply with 113 for 1 wicket at close of the second day and once again two schools had to be satisfied with a another draw to share Blackham Wijewardena Trophy.

The second day highlights were Thurstan College skipper Vihas Thewmika who scored 77 in 128 balls with 9 fours and a six to enable their total to 253 for 8 wickets declared gaining a three runs lead over Isipathana who scored 250 for 9 wickets on the first day.

Isipatana openers Navindu Umeth (24) and Thusith Rodrigo who made a brilliant knock of 82 in 97 balls in an aggressive knock with 4 sixes made a bold reply end of the day.

However overall batsman dominated day two but Isipathana Sithuka Gunawardena took the day two bowling honours taking 4 for 88 in his 27 overs spell.

The match ended with a draw while Thurstan skipper and National under 19 player Vihas Thewmika took 6 for 74 while Isipathana Tharuka Asel hit a fine knock of 102 on the first day. Two skippers of Isipathana and Thurstan received the Blackham Wijewardena trophy from Chief Guest Nilmin Nanayakkara the Chairman and Managing Director of N- Car travels who is a distinguished Isipathana old boy.

Thurstan skipper Vihas Thewmika who scored 77 and taking 6 wickets was adjudged man of the match.
