Moors Sports Club, led by Pasindu Sooriyabandara, succeeded in winning the first-class One-Day cricket championship for the first time in their history.
In the final match—played as a day-night fixture at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo as part of the inter-club first-class One-Day tournament organized by Sri Lanka Cricket—SSC was defeated by Moors by 25 runs.
The Moors team had previously reached the finals in the 2006/07 and 2007 seasons but had to settle for the runners-up spot on both occasions; they last finished as runners-up in 2007 against the SSC team.
Batting first in the match, the Moors team scored 260 runs, while the SSC team could only manage 235 runs in reply. Ramesh Mendis won the ‘Man of the Match’ award along with a cash prize of Rs. 150,000, whereas Muditha Lakshan of the Colts Sports Club secured the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award along with a cash prize of Rs. 1.5 million.
The victorious Moors team received Rs. 3 million, while the runners-up were awarded Rs. 2.5 million. It was notable that the SSC team achieved this feat after returning to the first-class level this season, having competed in the Tier B tournament last year.
Movin Subasinghe (BRC) and Shiran Fernando (Moors) won awards and a cash prize of one million rupees each, recognized as the tournament’s best batsman and best bowler, respectively.
