The ‘ICC Women’s Emerging Nations Cup’ T20 cricket tournament, organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for emerging women’s teams, is set to commence on the 12th of this month in Ajman, United Arab Emirates. While eight teams participated in the inaugural edition of the tournament last year, the number of participating teams has been increased to 10 for this year’s event.
Accordingly, this year’s tournament will feature ICC Full Members—Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, and Ireland—alongside Thailand, the Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, Scotland, and the United Arab Emirates. While these five teams also participated in the inaugural edition of this tournament last year, Uganda, Tanzania, and Namibia—who competed previously—have missed out on a spot this time around.
Following the conclusion of the preliminary round on the 18th of this month, the top three teams from each of the two groups will advance to the ‘Super 6’ round, with these matches scheduled for the 20th, 22nd, and 23rd of this month. The tournament is set to conclude on the 25th. The matches will be held at the Karwan and Seven District cricket grounds
Kicking off the tournament, the Sri Lanka team will face Ireland on the 12th, followed by a match against Scotland on the 13th—both starting at 10:30 AM (Sri Lanka time). Subsequently, they will play against Papua New Guinea on the 15th, and finally conclude the preliminary round with a match against the UAE on the 16th, scheduled for 2:45 PM (Sri Lanka time).
