The Colombo Marathon is scheduled to commence on September 13

The Colombo Marathon is scheduled to commence at 6:00 a.m. on the 13th of this month from Colombo’s Scouts Mawatha, with over 2,000 local and international athletes confirmed to participate in the main event. Notably, more than 150 athletes from 25 countries—including Kenya and Ethiopia, nations that dominate the marathon circuit—have confirmed their registration.

Thuan Naseer Ahamed, the Media Head of the Ministry of Sports, stated in response to an inquiry that over 3,000 athletes are expected to participate in the 5km fun run, in addition to the main race.

The marathon event is organized into four main categories: the full marathon (42km), the half marathon (21km), the 10km road race, and the 5km fun run (open to all ages).

Arrangements have been made to lay out the race course in accordance with the technical standards required for an international-level marathon and to secure the assistance of recognized technical managers and world-class technical experts to oversee the event; the Sri Lanka Athletics Association has extended its full support for this initiative.

Nearly 150 qualified technical officials from Sri Lanka Athletics are participating to handle officiating and technical aspects of the race, while the Department of Sports Development and the Institute of Sports Medicine have collaborated to ensure the highest standards regarding race route safety, medical facilities, and operational logistics. Furthermore, the Colombo Marathon has received the full support of the Sri Lanka Anti-Doping Agency.
