Sandun Madushanka and Dilipa Chamikara succeeded in winning the first-ever gold medal for Sri Lanka in the history of the Central Asian Beach Volleyball Championship.
Sri Lanka won the championship by defeating the Indian team in the men’s final of the Bhutan Open, a beach volleyball tournament conducted by the Central Asian Volleyball Association.
Sri Lanka secured a 2-0 victory in the match against India, with set scores of 21-18 and 21-14. Bharat and Rajish represented India in the match; they had reached the final by defeating the host nation, Bhutan.
Two men’s teams from India participated in this tournament, and the Sri Lankan team faced an Indian side in the semi-finals as well. Sri Lanka secured an easy victory in that match, winning 21-13, 21-12.
Teams from Sri Lanka, India, the Maldives, Nepal, Uzbekistan, and Bangladesh, along with the host nation Bhutan, participated in this tournament.
