SL v BAN : ASIA CUP, MATCH 02 – Sri Lanka crush Bangladesh by 5 wickets

Sri Lanka registered a  five wicket win  over Bangladesh in their opening match in the Asia Cup 2023 in Pallekele.
Chasing a target of 165 runs to win, Sri Lanka lost their opening batters cheaply. Dimusth Karunarathna made just one run while Pathum Nissanka made 14. Kusal Mendis continued his out- of-form and got out for 5 runs when the total score read as 43.
Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka built Sri Lankan inning by registering 78 runs for the fourth wicket and took Sri lanka away from danger. Sadeera made 53 and Charith Asalanka made 51 not out.  Skipper Dasun Shanaka remained not out on  11
Shakib Al Hassan was the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers claiming two wickets.

Earlier the combination of Matheesha Pathirana and Mahesh Thiikshana destroyed the Bangladesh batting line up in the Sri Lanka’s first match in the Asia Cup against Bangladesh. They restricted the opponent for 164 runs in 42.4 overs

Bangladesh skipper Shakib al Hassan decided to take the first lease of the wicket  after wining the toss.

Sri Lankan bowlers ripped through Bangladesh batters by sending top three batters by the total score 36 including the skipper Shakib al Hassan.

Najmul Shanto was the only Bangladesh batter to provide some kind of a resistance to the Sri Lankan bowlers who made solid 89 runs which helped Bangladesh to pass 150 run mark.

Matheesha Pathirana took 4 wickets for 36 runs while Mahesh Theekshana taking two wickets for 19 runs.
