Brazillian Jiu-Jitsu is a self defence martial art that requires to pin you opponent to the ground with grappling methods. Seniru Tissera, a 16 years old Sri Lankan who is now living in Dubai, is one such fighter who has shown a lot of promise.
A youngster who is only at White Belt, he is currently competing under the 60kg youth men’s category and has been competing in the art of Brazilian jiu-jitsu for a while. This is what he had to say about his year so far.
“I’ve brought a silver medal for Sri Lanka by competing at Al WASL Intem championships, a bronze medal at AJP Tour Fujairah and another silver at National Pro UAE which was held on this September 3rd at Abu Dhabi.”
He has been proudly fighting under the Sri Lanka flag in high profiled martial arts competitions, which is a great achievement for a youngster who has already won 3 medals for far this year.
“The art of jiu-jitsu is upcoming, and will be an Olympic sport by 2024 and I’ll bring more medals to Sri Lanka as I continue to compete,” Seniru signed off with a promise to bring more glory to his motherland.
It was not too long ago when we saw a young Nethmi Ahinsa won a Bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games at 18. With Jiu Jitsu to become an Olympic Sport in 2024, Seniru if on the right track and necessary recognition from the sporting bodies he, maybe able to achieve his Olympic dream.
