Sri Lanka Cricket Make Massive Donations

Sri Lanka Cricket, the richest sporting body in Sri Lanka, have come forward with many donations and were presented today to the relevant bodies.

It is also learnt that SLC have pledged USD 100,000 for Yupun Abeykoon, who recently broke the 10 second barrier. He will receive USD 50,000 per year for a period of 2 years, leading up to the 2024 Olympics. Recently he even stated that he did not have financial support from the Sri Lankan sporting bodies.

They have also taken another huge step by donating LKR 100 Million to the National Sports Fund. Additionally, SLC have pledged LKR 22.5 Million for the Commonwealth Games athletes.

The CWG athletes are set to compete at the end of this month in Birmingham. Due to financial constraints, all sports were expected to find sponsors but SLC have taken an extra step to not only fund the Women’s cricket team but the contingent in whole. 114 athletes and 51 officials are due to travel.

Further, USD 1 Million each was donated today to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital and Apeksha Hospitals. Most of these donations were announced a month ago but made official today.
