The Australia tour of Sri Lanka continues with the two-match Test series scheduled to be played at Galle. The first Test begins on June 29 at 10 am local time, with the Aussies looking to overcome their -0-3 whitewash in the 2016 series. Several of those players who played in that series are a part of this series as well and they have a point to prove. The Test series is also a part of the ongoing World Test Championship.

Sri Lanka and Australia have played each other in 31 Test matches before the first Test in Galle, The Aussies have won 19 Tests while the Sri Lanks just four overall. Australia have won 13 matches at home while Sri Lanka have won all their four matches in Sri Lanka. They are yet to win a Test match on Australian soil.

Both the sides have announced their squads for the two-match series. The Aussies are still struggling with injury concerns to various key players. There are fitness concerns over Travis Head and Mitchell Starc. Mitchell Swepson might replace Head if the latter is not fit in time for the first Test.

Sri Lanka has seen the return of veterans Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal to the test squad. Mathews is fresh from his 199 against Bangladesh in Dhaka heading into the first Test. Dimuth Karunaratne will lead the side that has plenty of young faces amid some experienced faces swell. The battle between the Lankan spinners against the likes of Steve Smith and David Warner will be an interesting one.

So far Galle has hosted 37 Test matches with 21 matches won by the team batting first and 10 by the team batting second. The average first innings score is 365 and the average second innings score is 302 which reduces even more in the third and the fourth innings. With clouds hovering over, there is little chance of play possible on day 1.
