Sri Lanka fined 40 percent for Slow Over Rate

For the second this year, Sri Lanka have been fined for maintaining a slow over rate and were charged 40 percent in the 2nd T20I against Australia.

Ranjan Madugalle of the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction after Sri Lanka was ruled to be two overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration. The first time Sri Lanka were fined this year was also against Australia in February. The team was fined 20 percent for being one over short.

The bowling changes made in the second match was highly debatable as Sri Lanka exhausted their main strike bowlers to get 7 wickets but the latter stage proved to be invain as Australia chased the target with 2 overs to spare. The factors were a contributor towards the slow over rate and it is a concern that this happened for the second this time year.

Sri Lanka will play their 3rd match tomorrow at Pallekale. It has been reported that there won’t be batting changes although there is a possibility of having at least one bowling change.
