Judge delays Jordan Chiles’ mother’s prison sentence to see her win silver

United States gymnast Jordan Chiles stepped up to the plate at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics by winning silver for her team after the withdrawal of star competitor Simone Biles.

Chiles’ mother Gina is set to serve a year and one day in prison for fraud charges, but had her sentence delayed after a compassionate plea so she could watch her daughter compete at the games.

Gina Chiles ran a real estate agency, Vision Propery Management LLC, which defrauded clients between 2014 and 2016 through fictitious business proposals. She used the embezzled funds for her own personal use, which totalled over one million dollars.

She faced a maximum sentence of 20 years, but after a guilty plea she was sentenced in Oregon in November to 366 days in prison and is obliged to pay back the 1.2 million dollars back when she is released.

The Chiles family moved from Washington to Texas in 2019 so that Jordan could train at the same gym as Simone Biles. The pair have since become very close friends.
