Dubai will be ready on time with just one month to go until the city hosts the World Para Athletics Championships, local organisers have claimed.
A three-day coordination meeting between World Para Athletics (WPA) and the Local Organising Committee found the United Arab Emirates city to be on track to stage the Championships.
The five-strong WPA team review preparations for the event, due to take place between November 7 to 15 and its executive manager Majid Al Usaimi said he was happy to see the stakeholders working “closely and diligently” towards the Championships.
“As we are just one month away to the World Para Athletics Championships, it’s very important to make sure that all our plans are being executed and that they are in accordance with the requirements and regulations of the tournament,” said Al Usaimi.
“The coordination meeting was held to review and ensure all these aspects.
“The WPA team met with several stakeholders and are satisfied that everything will be ready on time.”
The WPA team met with various committee heads to review plans and visited the main stadium, where work continues to complete the training and warm up areas.
At the Dubai Club for People of Determination the cleaning and maintenance process is underway.
The Al Ahli Club will be used and a second warm-up area at the stadium and is expected to be complete by mid-October.
They also held meetings with Dubai Airport and Emirates Airlines to confirm use of the facilities for delegation arrivals into the airport.
A broadcasting update with Dubai Media Incorporate, the Logistics Committee, Protocol Committee Sports and Media and Branding Committee also saw issues relating to transport, accreditation and Opening and Closing Ceremonies discussed.
Al Usaimi, President of the Asian Paralympic Committee and chief executive of Dubai Club for People of Determination, thanked the government agencies for coming together and supporting the championships.
“The final preparations in all areas are also in progress,” added Al Usaimi.
“All our committees are working hard to complete the tasks at hand on time and we are very confident that Dubai will deliver one of the best Championships.
“In a few days’ time, we will be all ready to welcome and host 130 nations and more than 1,600 athletes for the Games.”
A total of 12 hotels are expected to be used for the Championships, while more than 80 shuttle buses have been assigned for transportation.
