Javelin thrower Waruna off to Finland

Javelin Thrower Waruna Lakshan Dayarathne will be off to Finland on Sunday for a training stint of three months targeting forthcoming Commonwealth Games 2018.

Waruna cleared 80m mark twice earlier this year with a best of 82.19m to gain qualification for the concluded IAAF World Championship 2017 in London. Waruna’s performance also put him as one of the only two athletes in SL with their performance inside medal prospect at the Commonwealth Games.

Javelin Thrower who got married recently, had to go through some tough time getting his training finalized as the Department of Sports Development which was to fund the training failed to do so until Friday where Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara had to intervene and sort it out in order for Waruna to travel on Sunday.

Sri Lanka had sent javelin throwers Nadeeka Lakmali and Sachith Maduranga to Finland earlier where both of them improved a lot following the training.
