Sri Lanka defeated Malaysia 65–60 in a thrilling third-place playoff to secure the bronze medal at the 2026 Asian Netball Championship in Hong Kong.
Sri Lanka ended their Asian Netball Championship 2026 campaign on a winning note, defeating Malaysia 65–60 in a closely fought third-place playoff to claim third place in Asia.
The Sri Lankan side produced a determined performance throughout the contest, maintaining their composure during the crucial stages of the match. Malaysia kept the pressure on and remained within striking distance, but Sri Lanka held their nerve to protect their advantage and finish the tournament with a well-earned victory.
The bronze-medal success provides a positive conclusion to Sri Lanka’s campaign, particularly after the team showed strong form during the tournament. Sri Lanka had also recorded a convincing 66–52 victory over Malaysia earlier in the championship, demonstrating their ability to compete strongly against one of Asia’s leading netball nations.
The 2026 championship was held in Hong Kong from August 8 to 15 and also served as the Asian qualifying tournament for the 2027 Netball World Cup.
Sri Lanka, one of the most successful teams in Asian netball history, therefore leave the championship with a bronze medal, adding another podium finish to their impressive record in the continental competition.
The 65–60 victory over Malaysia capped a competitive campaign for Sri Lanka and ensured that the national team returned home with a medal after battling among the region’s best throughout the championship.
