Singapore reaffirmed their status as the leading force in Asian netball after successfully defending their Asian Netball Championship crown with a commanding 57–33 victory over hosts Hong Kong in the final at the Kai Tak Arena.
The triumph completed an impressive campaign for Singapore, who demonstrated both their attacking strength and defensive discipline throughout the tournament. Although they suffered one setback during the Cup Division, the defending champions responded strongly and produced their best netball when it mattered most.
Singapore began their title defence in emphatic fashion, overwhelming the Maldives 81–19 in their opening match. Their powerful attacking unit immediately established itself as one of the tournament’s most dangerous, while their defensive organisation restricted the Maldives to fewer than 20 goals.
They then faced a much tougher challenge against former champions Sri Lanka. Singapore nevertheless maintained their composure to record a 62–51 victory, giving an early indication that they remained determined to retain the title they had won in 2024.
The defending champions continued their strong run against the host nation, defeating Hong Kong 53–40. The victory was particularly significant as Hong Kong would eventually emerge as Singapore’s opponents in the championship decider.
Singapore’s only stumble came against Malaysia on August 11, when they went down 52–46. However, rather than allowing the defeat to derail their campaign, the Singaporeans responded with authority.
They returned to winning ways with a massive 87–31 victory over India, producing a performance that restored their confidence ahead of the knockout stages. The result also demonstrated the depth and consistency of a squad capable of bouncing back from adversity.
Their biggest test came in the semi-final against Sri Lanka, the reigning Asian champions before Singapore’s 2024 triumph. Having already beaten Sri Lanka in the preliminary stage, Singapore produced an even more convincing performance in the knockout encounter, storming to an 82–54 victory.
The semi-final success sent Singapore into the championship match with considerable momentum and set up a rematch with Hong Kong, who had earned their place in the final after defeating Malaysia.
Singapore Deliver When It Matters Most
With the Asian title on the line and the home crowd firmly behind Hong Kong, Singapore produced a disciplined final performance.
The defending champions controlled the contest with intelligent movement, accurate shooting and relentless defensive pressure. Hong Kong attempted to stay within striking distance, but Singapore’s ability to maintain possession and convert scoring opportunities prevented the hosts from building any sustained momentum.
As the match progressed, Singapore steadily extended their advantage. Their defensive unit continued to frustrate Hong Kong’s attacking combinations, while the shooters at the opposite end made the most of their opportunities.
By the final whistle, Singapore had secured a comprehensive 57–33 victory, completing another chapter in their remarkable Asian netball story.
The championship also underlined Singapore’s remarkable consistency at continental level. Their 2024 triumph in Bengaluru had ended a decade-long wait for an Asian title, and the 2026 success confirms that Singapore are once again firmly established at the summit of Asian netball. For Hong Kong, the silver medal represents an impressive achievement on home soil. The hosts produced a strong campaign, including a 57–57 draw against Sri Lanka in their opening match and a convincing 81–30 victory over India, before progressing through the knockout stages to reach the final.
But the night ultimately belonged to Singapore.
From their emphatic opening victory over the Maldives, through the difficult defeat against Malaysia, to their dominant semi-final performance against Sri Lanka, the defending champions showed the resilience, quality and championship mentality required to go all the way.
Singapore’s 57–33 victory over Hong Kong not only retains their Asian crown but also strengthens their position as one of the dominant powers of netball in the region.
