Prior to the Test series, the Indian cricket team is set to play a four-day warm-up match at the NCC ground in Colombo from August 7 to 10.
The first Test match between India and Sri Lanka began in Chennai on September 17, 1982, and ended in a draw. On September 6, 1985, at the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium in Colombo, Sri Lanka defeated India by 149 runs, marking the team's first-ever historic Test match victory. The most recent Test match between the two nations took place at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru starting on March 12, 2022, resulting in a 238-run victory for India.
A total of 46 Test matches have been played between India and Sri Lanka; India won 22 of them, while Sri Lanka won 7. Notably, all seven of Sri Lanka's victories were achieved on home soil—three at the Galle International Stadium, and two each at the SSC and the P. Saravanamuttu Stadium in Colombo.
