The Sri Lanka team succeeded in winning the bronze medal at the Central Asian Men's Volleyball Tournament held in Islamabad, Pakistan, under the auspices of the Central Asian Volleyball Association (CAVA).
In the match played against Uzbekistan yesterday to decide third place, the Sri Lankan team secured victory with a score of 3-2.
The Sri Lankan team won the first set 25–19, while Uzbekistan claimed the second set 25–22. Sri Lanka won the fiercely contested third set 25–23, but Uzbekistan took the fourth set 25–19 to level the match at 2–2. Taking the lead in the final set, the Sri Lankan team secured this historic victory by winning the set 15–11.
This marks the highest position Sri Lanka has achieved in this tournament since its inception in 2022; the team had previously secured fourth place on two occasions. Originally launched as the Asian Senior Men's Central Zone Championship, the tournament was rebranded as the Central Asian Nations League in 2023.
The Sri Lanka team participated in the tournament under the captaincy of Deeptha Romesh (Police Sports Club) and the vice-captaincy of Ayesh Dilhan (Electricity Board Sports Club).
An undefeated Pakistan team won the gold medal, while Bangladesh—defeated 3–0—secured the runner-up position. Both teams also qualified for the Asian Men's Volleyball Championship scheduled to be held later this year.
