Sunrisers Hyderabad delivered a commanding performance in front of their home crowd, defeating Rajasthan Royals by 57 runs and ending their unbeaten streak in emphatic fashion. The match at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium saw Hyderabad excel in both batting and bowling, while Rajasthan struggled to keep up despite a late resistance.
Opting to bat first, Hyderabad suffered an early setback as Jofra Archer struck on the very first ball, dismissing Abhishek Sharma. Travis Head also failed to make an impact, scoring just 18 runs. However, the innings was rebuilt through a crucial 88-run partnership for the third wicket between Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen.
Kishan stood out with a captain’s knock under pressure, bringing up his half-century in just 30 balls. He then accelerated further, taking on the bowlers aggressively. In the 11th over, he smashed 21 runs off Tushar Deshpande, and followed it up with three consecutive boundaries against Archer in the 13th over. Kishan eventually scored a brilliant 91 off 44 balls, hitting 6 sixes and 8 fours.
Klaasen contributed 40 runs off 26 balls, while Nitish Reddy added 28. Aniket Verma was run out, and Salil Arora remained unbeaten on 24. Hyderabad finished strong with 216/6 in 20 overs.
Chasing a daunting target of 217, Rajasthan Royals had a nightmare start. Debutant Prafull Hinge stunned everyone by picking up three wickets in the very first over, dismissing Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Dhruv Jurel, and Pretorius for ducks. Another debutant, Sakib Hussain, struck in the second over to remove Yashasvi Jaiswal. Captain Riyan Parag managed only 4 runs as Rajasthan collapsed to 9/5.
A fightback came through a 118-run partnership for the sixth wicket between Ravindra Jadeja and Donovan Ferreira. While Jadeja played cautiously, Ferreira took the attacking route and scored a half-century. Ferreira was dismissed for 69, and Jadeja followed after scoring 45.
The resistance ended quickly thereafter as Archer, Ravi Bishnoi, and others fell to Sakib Hussain. Tushar Deshpande scored 25 before being dismissed, and Rajasthan were bowled out for 159.
