Two Sri Lankan bowlers, Wanindu Hasaranga and Nuwan Thushara, are among the top ten in the latest ICC T20 Bowling Rankings, while skipper Charith Asalanka is among the top ten in the ICC ODI Batting Rankings issued by the ICC. Opener Pathum Nissanka has secured the fourth position in the T20 Batting Rankings. The consistent right-handed opener continues to be Sri Lanka’s most successful batter across all three formats.
Hasaranga, the team’s key leg-spinner, moved up one place to reach fourth in the ICC T20 Bowling Rankings, while right-arm paceman Thushara also climbed one spot to sixth. Mystery spinner Maheesh Theekshana is ranked 16th in T20 bowling, while he has slipped to fourth in the ICC ODI Bowling Rankings. Hasaranga has also moved up one place to reach 10th in the ICC ODI Bowling Rankings, making him the only Sri Lankan bowler to feature among the top ten in both ODI and T20 formats.
Meanwhile, skipper Charith Asalanka holds the 7th position in the ICC ODI Batting Rankings — the only Sri Lankan batter among the top ten in the format. Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka are ranked 11th and 12th respectively. India’s Rohit Sharma leads the ODI Batting Rankings, followed by Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran and New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell in second and third places.
In the T20 Batting Rankings, Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka is ranked fourth, while experienced left-hander Kusal Janith Perera is in ninth place and Kusal Mendis in 18th. Indian youngster Abhishek Sharma currently tops the T20 Batting Rankings.
Meanwhile, following the Women’s World Cup, South Africa skipper Laura Wolvaardt, who scored 571 runs, climbed to the top of the ICC Women’s ODI Batting Rankings. India’s Smriti Mandhana dropped to second place. Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu is ranked 11th among batters. Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner leads the Women’s ODI All-Rounder Rankings, with Athapaththu in ninth place, while England leg-spinner Sophie Ecclestone tops the Women’s ODI Bowling Rankings.
Sri Lanka’s men’s ODI team is currently ranked fourth in the ICC ODI Team Rankings and eighth in the T20 format. India holds the top spot in both ODI and T20 team rankings. Sri Lanka’s women’s team remains sixth in the ICC Women’s ODI Team Rankings following the World Cup.
