Sri Lanka Sports Journalists’ Official Website Launched with the Blessings of the Minister of Sports

A new chapter in Sri Lanka’s sports media landscape began today with the official launch of the Sri Lanka Sports Journalists’ Association (SLSJA) Website, held under the distinguished patronage of the Hon. Minister of Sports.

The launch marks a significant milestone in the journey of Sri Lanka’s sports journalism fraternity, bringing together the country’s leading sports writers, photographers, and broadcasters on a single digital platform. The new website will serve as a central hub for updates, member engagement, and the promotion of ethical, professional sports journalism across the island.

Addressing the gathering, the Hon. Minister of Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage commended the initiative, noting that “sports journalists are the storytellers who carry the spirit of sport to every corner of the nation. This platform will empower them to connect, collaborate, and contribute more effectively to the development of sports in Sri Lanka.”

The event also featured the presence of senior journalists, officials from the Ministry of Sports, and representatives from national sports associations. Demonstrations showcased the website’s features — including a member directory, event calendar, training resources, and an archive of notable articles documenting decades of Sri Lankan sports history.

President of the SLSJA, Susanthika Premachandra in her remarks, emphasized that the digital platform will strengthen unity within the profession and provide greater visibility to the role of journalists in promoting fair play and sporting excellence.

With this launch, the SLSJA takes a major step forward in adapting to the digital era, ensuring that Sri Lanka’s sports stories — from grassroots achievements to international triumphs — are shared with accuracy, integrity, and pride.
