Sri Lanka’s rising para-athletics sprinter Janani Jananjana delivered an inspiring performance in the women’s T47 100 m heats at the ongoing World Para Athletics Championship, clocking a personal best of 12.88 seconds.
Although the blistering run was not enough to secure a lane in the final, Janani’s achievement stands as a significant milestone in her young career. Improving her personal record on the world stage reflects the hard work and determination she has poured into training over the past year.
Competing against a field stacked with seasoned international athletes, the 23-year-old showed composure and power out of the blocks, holding her own through the finish line.
Speaking after the race, team officials praised Janani’s effort, calling it “a statement of intent” for future championships, including next year’s Asian Para Games and the Paris 2028 Paralympic cycle.
While a place in the final eluded her this time, Janani’s performance is a reminder that progress is measured not only by medals but also by personal breakthroughs. With continued training and international exposure, Sri Lanka can look forward to seeing this talented sprinter rise even higher on the global stage.
