India Tame England at Edgbaston to Level the Series 1-1

India Thrash England at Edgbaston by 336 runs to Level the Series 1-1, Marching Towards Lord’s With Momentum

By Leonard Ratnayake, Reporting from England

In a stunning display of dominance, India crushed England by 336 runs in the second Test at Edgbaston to level the five-match series 1-1. After a humbling loss in the first Test, India bounced back emphatically, outplaying the hosts in every department of the game.

Having won the toss and opted to bowl first, a decision that raised eyebrows after England piled up 587 runs, the Indian team showed resilience and intent, turning the game around through sheer skill and composure. England’s bowling unit, in contrast, looked toothless and short of ideas against India’s relentless batting lineup.

Shubman Gill led the charge with a majestic 269, his highest Test score to date, while all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja (89) and Washington Sundar (42) offered solid support down the order. Their contributions not only closed the gap in the first innings but sent a clear message: this Indian team has depth, balance, and belief. Their performances have certainly created concern for England ahead of the next Test.

England’s first innings collapse to 85 for 5 exposed the fragility of their top order, and while Jamie Smith and Harry Brook mounted a gritty fightback, their efforts only papered over deeper cracks. India’s seam attack, sharp and precise, gave England few chances — a stark contrast to the home side’s misfiring pace battery.

Trailing by 180 runs, India returned with the bat to pile on 427 for 6 declared in the second innings. Once again, the English bowling faltered, unable to break partnerships or apply consistent pressure. Gill’s elegant 161, along with crucial knocks from Rishabh Pant (65) and Jadeja (69), showcased India’s intent to not just equalize, but dominate, underlining their growing confidence in pushing for a series win. Meanwhile, England’s bowling lineup is under scrutiny and may require changes going forward.

Chasing an impossible target, England folded for 271, a performance that further highlighted their batting woes. Jamie Smith stood tall with an impressive 88, but his lone resistance could not mask the brittleness around him. He was the lone resistance against the Indian bowlers in an otherwise fragile batting performance.

Perhaps the most encouraging sign for India was the performance of Akash Deep. Filling in for the rested Jasprit Bumrah, he delivered a career-defining spell, taking 6 for 99 and proving that India’s bench strength in pace bowling is as dangerous as its frontline attack.

As the series moves to the hallowed grounds of Lord’s, England are left with serious questions — about their batting durability, bowling direction, and team composition. India, on the other hand, have momentum, belief, and a hunger to seize the series on English soil.
