The Team of the Week concluded over the weekend in the Dialogue Schools League 2025.

The teams in contention are namely Ananda, St. Thomas’, Trinity, and Wesley.
Ananda College came up with the art of catch-up rugby, playing away from home territory after being led by 20 points to 13 at lemons, against a more experienced team, St. Anthony’s. Ananda, after being promoted from Division “B”, played a brand of rugby that was eye-catching to pull a blinder and win by 30 points to 27.
In my books, I place them at number 4.
St. Thomas’ played against Dharmaraja, who gave an excellent account of themselves with some solid defense and their skill levels in catch-up rugby against the Green Machine last week.
However, this week, the Thomians taught them the meaning of flashy open rugby with some great passages of play and thumped them by 48 points to 5, crossing their whitewash 8 times and missing out on the dreaded 50-point margin due to a flurry of missed conversions.
Taking everything into consideration, we place the Thomians at number 2 because although the brand of running rugby they executed in that first half to seal the game was noteworthy, they managed only 2 scores in the second half, while giving away 1 try. However, we place them in a top slot in the Cup segment and even tip them as favourites against Isipathana this week.
Trinity, under the watchful eyes of Fazil Marjah, played an excellent game against a fairly competitive Josephian outfit here in Colombo to win by 29 points to 7. SJC were not themselves in that first half, though, and their body language clearly was not up to the defensive challenge of facing the marauding Trinity pack and threes.
The Lions were without 3 key playmakers nursing niggles in this game. They even took the risk of using their bench strength in the second half, displaying full control of the game by leading 22 points to nil at the breather. The Lions, in our books, are placed at number 3 this week.
The number 1 team once again for the second week on the trot goes to Wesley, as they outplayed the Sanath Martis-coached and defending champions St. Peter’s by 23 points to 5, crossing the Peterites’ whitewash in both halves.
It was a clinical display of good aggressive rugby, coupled, of course, with infringements from both sides, with yellow cards being dished out to both Wesley and St. Peter’s. End of the day, a brilliant display of rugby with nail-biting moments due to the high intensity of the game.
Here is the wrap:
