Bangladesh tour: SLC to follow health guidelines: Ashley

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ashley de Silva says that the forthcoming tour to the country by Bangladesh featuring an all format series will not be hampered due to the spread of any diseases in the country.

He made this comment in response to the decision taken by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), to postpone the 2025 Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup originally set to kick off here from Friday (6), due to adverse weather and health reasons in Sri Lanka.

De Silva said that with regard to any health issues, the sport’s local controlling body would be strictly adhering to advice and guidelines put forth by the Health Ministry whenever international tours are organised.

He reiterated the fact that even during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, the SLC had organised international fixtures and asserted that the current situation would not be an exception to pressing ahead with the match schedule for the upcoming Bangladesh series.

The SLC CEO added that what had prompted the ACC to postpone the Emerging Teams Asia Cup is the current inclement weather coupled with the spread of chikungunya, impacting on the tournament, which was originally scheduled to kick off in two day’s time.

However, he was quick to point out that the reasons which had forced the postponement of the Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup, will not have any detrimental effect on the Bangladesh series, as it only starts in a fortnight’s time.

Bangladesh will arrive in Sri Lanka on 12 June, to feature in two Tests, three ODIs and a similar number of T20Is, with the tourists playing their first bilateral red-ball series here since 2021, their first One-Day International series since 2019 and their first T20I series in nine years.
