Sri Lanka’s men’s rugby sevens side has departed for China ahead of the opening leg of the Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Series 2026, with the Tuskers set to compete in Suzhou on August 29 and 30.
The 12-member squad will be captained by experienced campaigner Srinath Sooriyabandara, whose leadership and sevens experience will be central to Sri Lanka’s challenge against some of Asia’s leading rugby nations.
The tournament will be held at the Changshu Sports Center and will feature 24 national teams, with 12 teams competing in each of the men’s and women’s categories.
Alongside Sooriyabandara, Sri Lanka’s squad includes Akash Madusanka, Chathura Soysa, Diluksha Dange, Naveen Marasinghe, Ravindu Anjula, Shaahid Zumri, Kavindu Perera, Dinal Ekanayake, Pasindu Bandara, Jayathu Rajarathne and Gayan Perera.
Head coach Peter Woods and Rugby Manager Buddika Kulatunge will oversee the Tuskers during the two-day competition.
Sri Lanka will be aiming to begin the continental series on a positive note, with valuable ranking points at stake as the team looks to build momentum for the remainder of the campaign.
The tournament will also feature Sri Lankan officials, with Dilroy Fernando appointed Referee Manager and Ishanka Abeykoon serving as a Match Official.
The Suzhou leg is the first of two stops on the 2026 Asia Rugby Emirates Sevens Series. The second leg will be played in Colombo on October 17 and 18, giving Sri Lanka the chance to continue its campaign in front of a home crowd.
