Trinity Seal Historic 80th Bradby Shield with Commanding Aggregate Victory

Pallekele, July 25: Trinity College completed a memorable unbeaten season by securing the 80th Bradby Shield, overcoming Royal College in the second leg at the Trinity College Rugby Stadium in Pallekele. Backed by a commanding 33-10 first-leg victory in Colombo, the Trinitians successfully defended their aggregate advantage to reclaim one of Sri Lanka’s most prestigious school rugby trophies.

Royal entered the decider needing a remarkable comeback after trailing by 23 points on aggregate. Despite producing a determined and spirited performance, the Reid Avenue outfit was unable to overturn the deficit as Trinity displayed composure, discipline, and defensive resilience throughout the encounter.

The second leg showcased the rich tradition and fierce rivalry that have made the Bradby Shield one of the country’s greatest sporting spectacles. Thousands of supporters from both schools packed the stands at Pallekele, creating an electric atmosphere as the two rugby powerhouses battled for school rugby’s most coveted prize.

Led by captain Shan Althaf, Trinity once again demonstrated the qualities that defined their outstanding campaign. Their disciplined defence, clinical execution, and confidence under pressure ensured that Royal never gained the momentum required for an unlikely comeback. The victory also capped an exceptional season for the Lions, who remained among the dominant forces in Sri Lankan schools rugby.

Although Royal College fell short of retaining the Bradby Shield, the team displayed tremendous determination and fighting spirit until the final whistle. Their resilience earned praise from supporters, while the traditional respect shared between the two schools remained evident throughout the contest.
