Hambantota, July 25: Sri Lanka Women produced a superb all-round performance to defeat Pakistan Women by eight wickets in the second One-Day International at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota, leveling the three-match series 1-1.
After being asked to chase a challenging target of 274, Sri Lanka responded in emphatic fashion, reaching 275/2 in 46.5 overs. The hosts were led by an outstanding unbeaten century from Harshitha Samarawickrama, who anchored the innings with a composed 100 not out off 119 balls, while Vishmi Gunaratne laid the foundation with a brilliant innings that earned her the Player of the Match award. Kavisha Dilhari then provided the finishing touches with a quickfire 40 not out from 33 deliveries, sealing victory with more than three overs to spare.
Earlier, Pakistan Women posted a competitive 273/5 after electing to bat. Sidra Amin starred with an unbeaten 100 off 120 balls, while Ayesha Zafar contributed a fluent 49, and Muneeba Ali added 45. Despite Pakistan’s strong batting effort, Sri Lanka’s bowlers kept the scoring under control in the closing stages, ensuring the target remained within reach.
Sri Lanka’s chase was built on calm partnerships and disciplined shot selection. Harshitha’s patient century anchored the innings, while Vishmi’s aggressive approach ensured the required run rate never became an issue. Dilhari’s late acceleration wrapped up the contest comfortably as Sri Lanka completed one of their highest successful ODI run chases.
The convincing victory erased the disappointment of Sri Lanka’s defeat in the opening ODI and brought the series level at 1-1, setting up an exciting decider between the two sides. With confidence restored and momentum on their side, Sri Lanka will look to carry their winning form into the final match of the series.
