The 22nd Asian Youth Athletics Championships, which will showcase the achievements of Asian athletes under the age of 20, will begin today (28) at the Kai Tak Youth Stadium in Hong Kong.
Athletes from 40 countries are participating in this tournament, which will feature 46 events. 22 athletes from Sri Lanka are participating. This includes 15 male and seven female athletes. Five athletes from Sri Lanka are scheduled to compete in the tournament, which begins today.
Ronali Anne Peiris will start representing Sri Lanka in the women's 400m first round at 7.45 am local time, followed by Omel Shashintha and Sadew Rajakaruna in the first round of the 400m at 8.10 am.
Vidushan Rajendran will compete in the 3000m final at 2.35pm, while Shavindu Nimasha and Kalpadith Hansaja will compete in the 400m hurdles preliminary round at 3.10pm. Nethsara Dineth will also compete in the 1500m event at 4.00pm, and the men's 400m semi-finals are scheduled to be held in the afternoon.
The Games were last held in the United Arab Emirates in 2024, where Sri Lanka won 2 silver medals and 3 bronze medals.
