Katukurunda 2023 to showcase Motor Racing talent

Nippon Paint, SLT Mobitel, National Lotteries Board and Finnland Holdings are the major sponsors of ‘Nippon Paint Katukurunda 2023’ organized and conducted by Sri Lanka Automobile Sports (SLAS) on Sunday, 3rd December. (Practice runs will be held on Saturday 2nd).

‘Nippon Paint Katukurunda 2023’ is the third edition of the only full tarmac race event held in Sri Lanka and the only race organised and conducted by the governing body for motor racing in Sri Lanka and all ten member clubs of SLAS.

President of SLAS and Chairman of the organizing committee Ashhar Hameem said that over a hundred entries have been received for 11 race classes and due to the enthusiasm there will be more than one race event for certain classes. He added that Sri Lanka’s racing ace Dilantha Malagamuwa had entered for the race. It is almost a decade since Dilantha last raced in Sri Lanka.

In addition to the major sponsors Exide, Wurth Lanka, Pink AutoShop, GITI Tyres, Totachi, Fazal Cdramic, ShakTea, Gill, i Grid, Toptul, Dealo, Freelan Industries, How to Drive, Tudo.lk, Glen Tch and Motor Sports Network have placed their trust in SLAS which was suspended by Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe by a gazette notification issued on August 9. The Court of Appeal subsequently issued an interim order suspending the said gazette notification which permits SLAS to continue with their planned race calendar.
