After defeating Sri Lanka by 7 wickets, Afghanistan secured the fifth position in the points table. Earlier, Afghanistan won the toss and chose to bowl first. Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka scored 46 runs before falling to Azmatullah Omarzai. However, Sri Lanka managed to post only 241 runs in 49.3 overs before being all out. Fazalhaq Farooqi took 4 wickets for Afghanistan.
Chasing the target, a brilliant spell by Dilshan Madushanka dismissed Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the first over, and Sri Lanka started their bowling attack well. However, skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai set up a strong unbeaten 111-run partnership, leading Afghanistan to victory with 28 balls to spare. Rahmat Shah also added 62 runs to Afghanistan’s innings.
