Sri Lanka Young Lions finish 6th place

Sri Lanka under 19s finished 6th place after the heavy defeat against Pakistan. They lost by 238 runs.

Despite opting to bowl first, Sri Lanka lost the plot as Pakistan piled up runs and ended up with 365/3. Haseebullah Khan scored his second century in the tournament and Qasim Akram scored the fastest century in the tournament history. They scored 136 and 135* respectively. Muhammad Sheshad scored 73. Matheesha Pathirana’s last over 2 wickets proved to be very late.

Sri Lanka had an uphill task and the score proved to be too much in the end. Qasim made a historic performance by making a 5 fer, the first time in Youth ODIs where a player achieved this along with a century. Vinuja Ranpul top scored with 53* and Dunith Wellalage was the other fighter with 40 runs. In the end, Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 127 runs.

Qasim was awarded player of the match for his record breaking all round performance. However, Sri Lanka achieved their best rank since 2016 where they ended 4th place under Charith Asalanka. They were placed 9th and 10th in the next editions till they did a bit better this time, finishing 6th place.
