Sri Lanka Under 19s through to the Quarter Finals!

For the first time since 2016, the Sri Lanka Under 19s will play the Super 8 as they beat hosts West Indies by 3 wickets. They chased the target of 251 with 10 balls remaining and finish on top in Group D.

West Indies had a early disaster but recovered slowly with useful knocks from their middle order batters. Teddy Bishopn and Jordan Johnson were unfortunate to miss on their half centuries as they were dismissed on 45 and 47.

Dunith Wellalage and Traveen Mathew bowled with discipline to slow down the scoring. However the West Indians unleashed their batting power in the late stages. Kevin Wickham was the top scorer with 57 runs and Rivaldo Clarke made power hits in his 45*. The other batters also did some damage but didn’t last long.

A few run outs were made while Dunith Wellalage and Matheesha Pathirana shared 5 wickets between them. West Indies made 250/9.

When chasing, Sri Lanka lost an early wicket but kept scoring well. Shevon Daniel was dismissed on 34 but Sadisha Rajapaksa kept on scoring to reach his half century. He was dismissed on 76 but the middle order ensured the target was chase. Anjala Bandara hit 40 and Ranuda Somaratne was not out on 28.

Sadisha Rajapaksa was awarded the man of the match. Sri Lanka Under 19s are to play the quarter finals on the 27th and most likely against Afghanistan. Australia qualify as West Indies are knocked out of the Super 8.
