Sri Lanka Basketball crowned SABA Runners Up

Sri Lanka Basketball have on emerged Runners up in the South Asia Basketball Association (SABA) Championship. Once again, this was held in Dhaka and Sri Lanka came in as Defending Champions from 2018.

The team started their campaign with a win against Bangladesh which ended 67-56. The next game however, they met the strong India team and suffered a heavy defeat of 114-48. However, they finished on a winning note in the 3rd and final game against Maldives yesterday. With a 77-45, Sri Lanka finished in 2nd place.

The team comprised of Clinton Stallone (Captain), Rukshan Athapaththu (V Captain), Gayan De Croos, Thimothi Nithushan, Praneeth Udumalagala, Chanuka Fernando, Arnold Brent, Udayanga Perera, Dasun Nilantha Mendis, Pawan Gamage, Nimesh Fernando and Asanka Mahesh Rajakaruna. Sasindu Gajanayake, Yoganamthan Simron and Sheran Fernando were standby players. The team was coached by Susil udukumburage (Head Coach) and assisted by Ranura Nanayakkara (Coach) and Duminda de Silva (Trainer).

India emerged Champions and runners up Sri Lanka have also qualified to the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers.
