Major General Damapth Fernando appointed as Chef de Mission for SA Games

The National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka named Major General (retired) Dampath Fernando as the Sri Lanka team’s Chef de Mission of the forthcoming 13th South Asian Games which will be in Nepal from 1 to 10 December. The 27-Sport will be staged in the cities of Kathmandu and Pokhara.
There will be over 700 athletes and officials are billed to take part in the ten-day event. Out of the 27 sports on the card, Sri Lanka will take in 26 of them. Sri Lanka will not take part in the paragliding event. The senior official of the NOC Major General Dampath Fernando is also the present President of the National Handball Federation. He was also the Chef de Mission at the last Asian Games in Jakarta. Meanwhile, three deputy Chefs de Mission were also named for this SAG to assist the Major General Fernando.
NOC senior member Gamini Jayasinghe who also the former Treasurer of NOC  and former Assistant Treasurer NOC SL Chandana Perera who is recently promoted to the supervising Sports officer of the sports department of the Colombo Municipal Council, and Ms Wing Commander Sherika Samarasinghe are named as the deputies. to handle the Sri Lanka contingents.
Major. Gen Fernando also acted as Chef-de-mission at the 2016 SAG at Guwahati, India while Gamini Jayasinghe the former Secretary of the National Hockey Federation acted as his deputy.
