Sri Lanka Badminton Association risks an International ban by World body

Sri Lanka Badminton Association once again runs the risk of getting banned by the World Badminton Federation after postponing its annual general meeting. The elections which was scheduled to be held on Friday the 13th would now be held on this Friday 21st June.

Badminton’s world body earlier had given 31st May as the final date for the elections but due to objections now it will be held 21 days after the scheduled final date. In case any ban imposed on the natioanl association, Sri Lankan shuttlers would not be able to represent the country as well as umpires and referees to take part in the International events.

“If they ban the association Sri Lankan players will not be able to take part in the forthcoming South Asian Games. All the badminton players like to see whoever come to the power and work for the development of the sport. Badminton is an Olympic sport and Sri Lanka recently showed big improvement at the International level. But the revival officials are fighting to get the power and result is sports ministry has to use their power for this administration.” said a past official who did not want to be disclosed.
