Workshop on Race Walking to be conducted next week in Colombo

A Race Walking workshop and seminar to educate athletes, coaches and technical officials will be held from 5 to 12 March in Colombo. It will conducted by foreign experts.

The workshop and seminar is organized by the Athletic Association (AASL) and is fully sponsored by the Ministry of Sports. Experts in the field, Khoo Chon Beng of Malaysia and Echo Yeung Mun of Hong Kong, will conduct the programme.
Race Walking is a developing event in athletics in Sri Lanka, but it is more popular in East Asian countries like Hong Kong, Malaysia, China and Japan.

The Olympics has two Race Walking events. The 20km Race Walk is open to both men and women, while the 50km is only for men.

At the Rio Olympic Games, both the men’s and women’s 20km Race Walk were won by Asian athletes. China’s Wang Zhen and Liu Hong won the men’s and women’s events, respectively.
