Sri Lanka continued their winning run, thumping India 100–34 in their 14th group match at the Asian Netball Championship yesterday at Kai Tak Arena, Hong Kong.
Led by captain Thishala Algama, Sri Lanka dominated from the start, winning all four quarters to record a comprehensive 66-point victory. The result secured Sri Lanka’s place in the semi-finals with one group match against Maldives still to play. India, meanwhile, slipped further from contention after their fourth straight defeat.
Buoyed by their recent win over Maldives, the Lankan side showed confidence and cohesion having already faced three top teams in the tournament. Sri Lanka opened strongly, taking the first quarter 25–8 and building a 54–19 lead by halftime. The second half saw them maintain control, winning the third and fourth quarters 24–6 and 22–9 respectively.
Algama, the tournament’s most successful goal shooter, was rested after the second quarter. Young Bhashi Udagedara replaced her and gained valuable international experience across the final two quarters. Sri Lanka’s superior passing, teamwork and experience proved decisive as India struggled to mount either an effective attack or defence.
