Four weightlifters from the National camp have tested positive for banned substances, according to sources.

Sources said N. Ajith (71kg), a Commonwealth and Asian Championships medallist, and Vanshita Verma (86kg) have tested positive for human growth hormone and Stanozolol respectively. Substances of a men’s 110kg lifter and a junior woman lifter from 77kg are not known.

Since three were potentially in contention for Commonwealth Games berths, the development might adversely affect India’s prospects at the Glasgow event scheduled from July 23 to August 2.

The Indian Weightlifting Federation officials couldn’t be contacted for their comments.

As per the Commonwealth Games qualification system, “If there are multiple anti-doping rule violations (ADRVs) committed by weightlifting athletes and/or weightlifting athlete support personnel sanctioned during the June 1, 2025 – July 22, 2026 period, the maximum number of athlete qualification slots allocated to a Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) will be reduced by the same number as the number of ADRVs.”
