Sri Lankan teams yesterday won both the men's and women's titles at the inaugural Central and South Asia (CASA) Rugby Sevens Tournament held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
The men's team, which won the tournament as undefeated, was captained by Srinath Suriyabandara, while the women's team was captained by Charini Liyanage.
The Sri Lankan women's team recorded a resounding 27-0 win over Kazakhstan in the women's final, while the Sri Lankan team defeated India 31-10 in the men's final.
Along with captain Srinath Suriyabandara, Janindu Dilshan (vice-captain), Chathurtha Vidanalage, Akash Madusankha, Kavindu de Costa, Kavindu Perera, Ramith Himash, Ravindu Anjula, Suranga Tennakoon, Diluksha Dange, Gayan Perera and Chemod Muthunayake were included in the Sri Lankan team, while Denuwan Wickramarachchi, Maliksha Perera and Jayatu Rajaratne joined the team as additional players.
The women's team included captain Charani, Sanjeevan Wijetilaka (vice-captain), Hekashani Krishnakumari, Dilini Kanchana, Kavisha Ishani Perera, Idusha Janani Perera, Priyanka Dilrukshi, Jayanthi Kumari Dilrukshi, Sanjeevan Perera, Nipuni Rasanjali, Dilki Sathsarani, Nirasha Dissanayake, while Sarani Nayanathara, Ruwanthi Tharushika and Nadeesha Dissanayake were named as additional players.
