Sri Lanka A-New Zealand A women’s series begins today

All-rounder Sathya Sandeepani will lead the Sri Lanka women’s A team for the ODI and T-20 match series against New Zealand Women’s A team which will commence with first ODI today at Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium ,

The selectors have named a 15 member ODI squad including more young players who played for the National under 19 team in recent series. The under 19 women’s team skipper Chamudi Probodha, Vimokasha Balasooriya, Sanjana Kavindi, Limansa Thillekaratne all played for National under 19 team during their last Australian tour got a chance to enter the Sri Lanka ‘A’ squad. This is a good opportunity for Sri Lankan Under 19 players to get experience before their World Cup.

Meanwhile National team’s top order batter Vishmi Gunaratne who did not play last Bangladesh series due to injury is also named for the Sri Lanka A’ squad. Skipper Sathya Sandeepani, Rashmika Sewwandi, Dewmi Vihanga, Piyuni Wathsala had early experience with playing senior National team. Sampath Perera the head coach cum batting coach, Gayan Wijekoon, bowling coach and fielding coach Vimukthi Deshapriya give their services to Sri Lanka women’s A team.

New Zealand women’s A squad features seven National players in experienced Kayley Knight, Jess Watkin, Bella Armstrong, Fran Jonas, Hannah Rowe, Kate Anderson and Bella James. However visitors are keen to play this series to get experience.

The second and third one day games will be played on May 15 and 18 while three T-20s are scheduled to be played on May 21, 23 and 25. All matches will be played at Dambulla.

New Zealand women’s A squad: Kate Anderson, Bella Armstrong, Emma Black, Prue Catton, Marama Downes, Kate Gaging, Fran Jonas, Bella James, Xara Jetly, Kayley Knight, Darcy Prasad, Hannah Rowe, Tash Wakelin, PJ Watkins, Jess Watkin. Brendon Donkers will lead the coaching unit, alongside Peter Borren and Sara McGlashan.
