Sri Lanka has claimed a total of four medals in athletics by the end of the fifth day of the 6th Asian Beach Games 2026, currently underway in Sanya, China.
Competing across eight sports at the Games, Sri Lanka has so far secured medals exclusively through athletics, with one silver and three bronze medals to its tally.
The national contingent consists of 77 athletes, including 22 track and field competitors (11 men and 11 women), representing the country in the multi-sport event held from April 22 to 30.
Among the latest achievements, the men’s 4×60m relay team, Nalith Tharushan, Sandun Diyalawaththa, Manuja Prabash, and Malith Thamel, clocked 27.57 seconds to win the bronze medal. China secured gold in 26.06 seconds, while Thailand took silver with a time of 26.68 seconds.
In the men’s long jump final, Sampath Miranda produced a leap of 7.37m to claim another bronze medal for Sri Lanka. Vietnam’s Van Nghia won gold with 7.44m, while China’s Tao Yege secured silver with 7.41m.
Earlier in the competition, Ishara Samanmali and Shashikala Lankathilaka delivered strong performances in the women’s long jump final, winning silver and bronze respectively—marking Sri Lanka’s first two medals at the Games.
