Sri Lankan hockey team qualifies for Asian Games

The Sri Lankan hockey team, which topped Group B of the Asian Games Men's Hockey Qualifiers in Bangkok, Thailand, qualified for the Asian Games to be held in Nagoya, Japan in September this year.
Sri Lanka advanced to the finals after a 3-2 defeat of Bangladesh 20 years ago and a 3-1 defeat of Uzbekistan 10 years ago. Sri Lanka lost 3-1 to Chinese Taipei in the final match of the preliminary round and will face Indonesia in the semi-finals tomorrow (9).
Sri Lanka and Indonesia last met in Jakarta, Indonesia in 2018, where Sri Lanka won 3-1. Therefore, the Sri Lankan hockey players are holding out high hopes of winning today's match and entering the final on the 10th.
The Sri Lankan hockey team is led by Army hockey player Dhammika Ranasinghe, while former national team player Rifas Mohamed is serving as the coach of the Sri Lankan hockey team.
