Dimuth Karunaratne is Yorkshire CCC’s newest overseas player addition for the upcoming County Cricket Championship which is to start in the 7th of April. Recently retired Suranga Lakmal is to play for Derbyshire CCC.
It is also interesting to note that there is a third Sri Lankan who will be playing English County Cricket. Thilan Walallawita is a Sri Lankan born player who domiciled in England as a teenager and started playing for Middlesex CCC since 2019 as a Left Arm Spinner. As of yesterday, he received his British citizenship and will no longer play as an overseas player.
Suranga Lakmal who retired from International Cricket will be moving into greener pastures of English County Cricket as he believes he still has something to give back in cricket. The team is coached by former Sri Lanka coach Mickey Arthur.
The County Cricket Championship will commence for the 122th year and allows two overseas players for each of the 18 teams.
