Achi-Nagoya, Japan: Sri Lankan para swimmers Galina Basnayake and Naveed Rahim will return to the pool today to compete in the men’s and women’s S-category 100m butterfly events at the 5th Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Basnayake will be looking to build on her impressive performance yesterday, when she secured a silver medal in the women’s 400m freestyle S9 event, adding another significant achievement to Sri Lanka’s campaign at the continental para-sport competition.
Her silver-medal performance has provided a boost to the Sri Lankan contingent, and she will be aiming to carry that momentum into today’s butterfly event as she takes on the region’s leading para swimmers.

Meanwhile, Rahim will be eager to make his mark in the men’s 100m butterfly after narrowly missing out on a medal in his previous event men’s 400m freestyle S9\. The Sri Lankan swimmer will be determined to produce a strong performance and challenge for a podium finish.
Both swimmers will be looking to deliver competitive performances as Sri Lanka continues its campaign at the Asian Para Games, where the country’s athletes are striving to add to the national medal tally.
With Basnayake arriving on the back of a silver-medal achievement and Rahim seeking a response after a near-podium finish, attention will be on the two Sri Lankan swimmers as they take to the pool today.
